Phone Addiction: Top 4 Simple Tips that helps

Hi guys,
So I want to get a little personal with the hope that someone will benefit from this.

This post was ignited due to the women whom I sat next to in the train recently. I noticed that throughout the journey and while we waited in the same waiting room, she was playing Sudoku and never brought out her phone. It was genuinely shocking for me because I honestly can not do without my phone for 3 minutes.

I used to be so addicted to my phone and to be sincere I still am but then over time, I have found ways to balance it. I used to be one of those people whom when they wake up the first thing I want to do is use my phone. In fact, anywhere I go, my phone must accompany me. Oh, it got to a stage wherein I started using it as a guard when in surroundings I don’t like (you know them boring classes or events).

Unfortunately, this habit negatively affected my efficiency but I realized that I needed to change it but how?. Addiction is something dangerous and we often think the only time we need help is when we are addicted to drug or something so extreme but the little things matter too.

I didn’t want to go to therapy and of course, I had to reshape my mindset and re prioritize the activities I engaged myself in. These tips contributed to how I got behind being addicted to my phone.

Hopefully, this is of benefit to you or someone close to you.

  • I stopped reaching for it every morning and instead I got books that are fun to read. It could range from inspirational to humorous books. This all depends on my mood. Either way, I just ensure to get something very insightful and motivational.
  • In all honesty, 90% of what I use my phone for is social media. So, what I started doing is only check it in intervals. For instance, I take like 3-4 hours intervals phone break. Thus, I know there is no need to be holding my phone all the time. Frankly, this even made my daily planning better as I needed to occupy myself with something productive during the break times.

  • It also affected my sleep. When you see yourself reaching out for your phone more, then you won’t even want to sleep at the right time. A Lifestyle blogger once wrote an article “COMPROMISING ON YOUR SLEEP: TIPS TO IMPROVE YOUR SLEEPING HABITS“. One of the tips shared was never to use your phone 2 hours prior to your bed time or else it will affect the urge to sleep. I actually tried it and it worked really greatly!
Remember, nothing should make you compromise on your sleep.

  • Finally, if you can’t really do away with your phone ( I struggle every day). Just strive to feed your mind with knowledgeable information. Try reading news, books (i will share the site I use to download novels for free). All in all, be productive and stop exhausting your energy on things that won’t contribute to your success.

  • Disclaimer; I am in no way a doctor but these are the things that have worked for me. I really hope they will be of help to you as well. Thank you.

Love, Idayat Sanni.
